- כְּמַרch. sam( Nif. נִכְמַר to shrink, fall in by the effect of the heat, to tumble inward), 1) to hide, keep warm (corresp. to h. טָמַן). Y.Sabb.IV, beg.6d (read:) כַּמְרָאִי גו גיפתא, v. גִּיפְתָּא. Ib. כַּמְרָהּ גווכ׳ put it in B. Mets.74a מתוסר מִכְמַר ועיוליוכ׳ requiring heating (of grapes) and carrying to the press. 2) to shrink, be wrinkled. Pes.58a מכמר בישרא the shrinking and drying up of the meat (from lying over too long). 3) (with רחמין as object) to feel compassion. Targ. Y. Deut. 13:18. Targ. Ps. 77:10.Kidd.81b, v. אִכְמַר.
